( a day at the museum meme )

D A Y at the M U S E U M

( a visit to a museum is a search for beauty, truth, and meaning in our lives. )

in the G R E E K / R O M A N section - you are strangers who happen upon each other at the museum. what do you talk about? is it a debate about art or pure smalltalk? will you want to meet again?

a stop at the C A F E - all that wandering around art and history has made you hungry. how's the food here, dull or delicious? sit down and have a talk or see if you can smuggle a snack with you into the next exhibit without getting caught!

special E X H I B I T on the first floor - you've arranged to meet here! is it a romantic date or just a bit of a good time with friends or family? are you fascinated by what you see or already bored before you get started? under any circumstances, enjoy your outing together!

T O U R this way, follow along - you've signed up for the tour! are you alone or with someone? do you ask questions with interest or hang back and whisper among yourselves? are you actually more interested in your phone? do you maybe get lost on the way?

before "W O M A N with black S T O C K I N G S" - these paintings are rather raunchy and you're both suddenly feeling like a little round of public sex. well, this is your chance! who will see you behind that statue, that column or in that corner anyway?

E X I T, emergency only - is there a scenario that hasn't been covered or something else you'd like to do at the museum? this is your option!

How to play -

1. Comment with your character's name, fandom and preferences in the subject line.

2. Others comment to your top level with an option for a scenario and either leave a starter or ask you to start the scene.

3. Thread it out! Simple as that.

[Thrawn rarely took time off, for he liked to keep busy. Still, even he wasn't one to pass up a chance to spend some alone time with Eli. He would always make time for his aide, on or off duty. Part of Thrawn wished they could be more open with their relationship, but it wasn't as if he were going to kiss Eli while on duty anyway. There was a time and a place to be affectionate, after all.

Besides, when Eli had suggested they use their shore leave to visit an art museum, of course Thrawn wasn't going to pass that up. Eli knew him, and knew what he liked.

Once he'd finished his work, Thrawn, outside of his uniform for once, met up with Eli down in the hanger bay, by the shuttle they would take down to the planet. It was only once they were seated and flying did Thrawn break the silence.]

I must commend your idea of how we should spend our shore leave.

[He smiled back at Thrawn, simply happy that Thrawn was happy with his choice and took the time to acknowledge him for it. He wasn't expecting him to do such a thing.]

Well, there's more after the museum. I happened to come across this in my search of what to do that was in the area. The exhibits they were promising seemed to be something you would enjoy. We can spend pretty much the entire day there before we have to worry about my other plans. I tried to not book the whole day and keep a loose schedule. I was just happy to be able to spend some time with you as ourselves.

[Such an odd way to phrase that, since Thrawn feels that he's always himself. Because he's the tactical genius and Chiss, Thrawn, no matter where he goes. Granted, he is hiding something more about himself from the Empire and Navy, but he feels that's different.

Still, he can kind of see what Eli means. When they're on shore leave, and just the two of them, he doesn't have to be the tactical genius and Imperial Officer, but can just be Mitth'raw'nuruodo. Just a man. He can relax when he's around Eli, and show a part of himself that he would show no other.]

You've seen that I enjoy and appreciate art, and thus you selected an activity based on what you knew I would enjoy.

[Thrawn's way of complimenting someone could get a bit odd, but he meant it.]

I look forward to the meal you've booked for us as well.

[Eli hummed in agreement. Soon they would be on the planet, checked in at their hotel, and then on their way to the museum. He resisted the urge to wrap his hand around Thrawn's hand while they were traveling. Once they left the shuttle they would be able to do so.

An hour later, Eli held onto Thrawn's hand as he led him to the museum.]

Where do you want to start?

[Eli's hand was warm within his own. It was a pleasant kind of warmness, one Thrawn associated with Eli himself. Each time they touched like this, it was something to savor, since they so rarely got to be this open with their affections.

Thrawn gazed at a kiosk showing a map of the museums's various floors and halls. He pointed a finger at a nearby exhibit.]

I would not mind starting at this exhibit.

[Eli's hand still within his own, Thrawn took the lead, heading down the nearby hallway that led to the exhibit in question. The artwork here is interesting, for none of it is static. The room contains sculptures that flow and move like floating lava or ooze, some on pedestals and others encased in glass orbs.

Thrawn stands before the nearest one. Blue liquid floats within a glass orb.]

What do you think of this, Eli?

[personal profile] thrawnsaide 2019-12-29 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Aside from the fact I want to touch everything and see how they react? Some of it looks like it's meant to be interactive. But this one isn't meant to be. Disappointing, but still neat. I wonder what's the blue liquid is supposed to mean?

[Eli frowned and tried to look at it some more and study the notes the artist had left behind on it.]

This was made by an amphibious race. The liquid they make their art from is just thick enough that it may be contained and become the malleable shape you see before you, constantly shifting and forming. However, to give it color, they must mix it with certain substances or powders.

The substances are normally safe for them, but for other species it may be hazardous to the touch. Hence the glass casing.

[Thrawn indicates the piece right next to the current one. This one is orange and slightly thicker, with no class casing.]

That one, it may be safe to touch.

[personal profile] thrawnsaide 2019-12-30 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Who would have thought art could be so dangerous?

[He carefully made sure not to touch even the glass to that particular display. Even though the glass protected them, it was still better be safe then sorry. With a wide grin, Eli moved over the safer display.

Tentatively he placed a hand over the thicker orange ink.]

[So many in the Empire would discourage such curiosity within its ranks. But not Thrawn. Thrawn liked that Eli was so inquisitive and wanted knowledge. He even encouraged it.

The liquid rippled under Eli's touch, flowing all over the moving work of art.]

Fascinating. What are your thoughts on it, Eli?

[personal profile] thrawnsaide 2020-01-02 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
I'm wondering if it's based on movement and heat? I would have said it would be based on movement, but it took my hand to trigger it instead of me simply walking by it. So it feels like it's a combination of both?

Could you place your hand over it too? I know we seem to have different body temperatures and this may support my theory or not.

[Eli stated as he continued to watch the ink move with his hand.]
admiralchiss: (Smiling)

[personal profile] admiralchiss 2020-01-02 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.

[Thrawn's body temperature was slightly cooler than Eli's, it was true. This would be an interesting experiment.

His hand hovered over the art for a moment, before he touched it, his hand just barely brushing against Eli's. Even that little touch allowed Thrawn to feel some of Eli's warmth. One could almost say the touch was an accident, but one who knew Thrawn would know it was no accident.

Under Thrawn's touch, the artwork rippled again, but much slower than it did under Eli's hand.]

It seems your theory was correct, Eli.
