Peter's school is on a field trip which, historically, have not been kind to the teenager so while his class is off milling about and looking at pictures, Peter is staying well away from anything that looks like he could somehow accidentally knock it over. Something bad is going to happen and he knows this because something bad always happens when he's on a field trip he's just hoping he can keep it from involving a phone call to May explaining he accidentally broke priceless art in a London museum.
Art's not really Peter's thing either but he can still appreciate it just fine. He glances around the exhibit, taking in the sculptures from a safe distance and getting no where near any of the oil paintings.
"This room making you uncomfortable, penis?" One of his classmates asks, a few of the other giggling. Peter just fixes him with a look but doesn't otherwise say anything since he's definitely not trying to start a fight here, of all places. "Better be careful though, if you spaz out like you usually do, you could end up having to sell yourself to the museum."
Peter suppresses a sigh as Flash and his friends go back to whatever they were doing before. "That didn't even make sense." He mutters to himself before noticing he's not the only one standing away from the exhibits. "Uh! Hi! He was just kidding. That's all."
There's a new, big Baroque exhibition on, she'd said that morning while he was pouring coffee and John had really, honestly gone for a neutral expression, because Rebecca, his current girlfriend who would undoubtedly be off the list again as soon as he aired his first intentions of returning to Afghanistan, next opportunity he could get, was an art history major and felt rather differently about galleries than he did. Rather than applauding him for not audibly groaning at the suggestion, she had thrown one look in his direction and continued: oh, don't be that way, John, it'll be fun! We'll do the tour!
Because he'd actually like to continue to get some, he deliberately hadn't replied that unless it was overseas, he wasn't much interested. Instead he'd nodded and smiled politely, offering to take her out for lunch afterwards. She'd been very appreciative.
The tour managed a head start of a good fifteen minutes before Rebecca ended up in an undoubtedly relevant discussion with the guide about the dating of a specific painting that to John just looks like gloomy splotches on canvas and maybe the outline of a skull -- and he mostly wants to face-palm at the sheer awkwardness of it, the other tour guests throwing him dirty looks while the two women turn increasingly more enthusiastic, borderline hysteric in their debate. He stays back while they continue into the next exhibit, telling himself he'll go find the loo and then catch up, shouldn't be too difficult, the tour guide gave him a map before they started.
That's when he overhears a bunch of teenagers, obviously American, gang up on one specific kid. Watching them out the corner of his eye, he frowns slightly, the kid seemingly noticing him after a few seconds and making a rather pathetic attempt at seeming unbothered. John purses his lips. "You act out in museums often?"
Peter watches his classmates a moment, he knows that they're talking about him and Flash is undoubtedly plotting something so he'll need to stay on his guard the whole tour through the museum. Just once, he'd like to get through a field trip that didn't go all to shit. Or maybe next time, he'll do a better job at hiding the form from Aunt May.
"Oh god, no! No, of course not!" He answers quickly, brown eyes wide with slight panic. It's clear he might actually be a bit of a spaz as the one kid had said. "I'm just uh-he was kidding it's just that uh last field trip we went on uh a thing.. happened that was totally not my fault and I guess I don't really have the best track record when it comes to field trips-they're just being jerks about it." He explains, nodding his head slightly and pursing his lips and an eager expression on his face.
It might have been more accurate to say he has the worst track record when it comes to school trips but he's always overshared quite a bit and this man is a complete stranger. It wasn't like he owed him his entire life story. But it's just what happens-get nervous, ramble and over share until he can finally find a stopping point and hopefully just swallow his whole tongue.
"I bet you probably didn't want to spend the tour with a bunch of teenagers from Midtown-it was kinda a last minute thing. Mr Harrington told us all last night that we would be visiting here. Which is nice-just our whole trip since we left the airport just kinda uh... been a mess."
Ever since he'd been bitten by a radioactive Spider Peter found he was almost always hungry. He and Ned attributed it to his extremely fast metabolism. It's that reason he's sitting in the cafe eating a large slice of pizza. It probably won't hold him over for long but it's at least something.
He's enjoying the pizza too, his class is off in the line at the moment and Peter taking some time by himself to look around before Ned and MJ get back. He spots someone at another table that he's pretty sure is Captain America. He's not sure why the man would be at the cafe of an art museum when he's a supposed war criminal but hey, his life. His life choices. And he's pretty sure he remembers reading something about Steve Rogers being an artist.
Should he approach? He glances back towards his class and bite his tongue before deciding to just go for it. He packs up his pizza and moves over, still a little nervous that he might be wrong. But he is really pretty sure.
"...Uh... So... um... Are you Captain America?" Good job Peter, just go ahead and ask right out-that's probably not rude. "I mean, if you're not then uh-I mean you really do look just like him-and that's-that's a compliment by the way."

As a recipient of the Super-Soldier formula, Steve is hungry a lot too. Of course, he's accustomed to it, thanks to his upbringing, but most of the time he can hold out long enough to find an inexpensive buffet. One that won't toss him out after half an hour. And, sure, he might be a wanted criminal, but that doesn't mean he can just ignore a WPA exhibit going around the United States. Easy enough to sneak back in, grow a five o'clock shadow and wear a baseball cap. Instant disguise, right?
At least until unmasked by a teenager.
"I used to be," Steve keeps his voice low, a little chagrined that Peter managed to identify him so quickly. He hunches his shoulders over a little more, automatically tensing. Like he expects a security guard or the police to appear suddenly. "Why is it a compliment?"
[The café, or (of course) the greek/roman section. Probably even in front of a statue with a very particular subject... Or, for something more serious, maybe that special exhibit is about Troy?]
Whoa. He was right. It is Captain America. Wow, okay. He just made things incredibly awkward. He opens his mouth to say something to make things less awkward for both of them but he’s never been good at that.
“I just meant-well if you weren’t Captain America then you might take offense to me-uh not that you would-or uh... oh man.” He lets out a sigh, his ears a bit pink as he’s well aware he’s just making it worse.
“Anyway. I’m pretty sure you’re still Captain America-I mean I don’t really know what’s going on with all that-cause like Mr Stark won’t tell me and the accords are really confusing-uh-I’m Peter by the way, I’m...” well he can’t just say he’s Spider-Man in a museum like this. “Uh.. from Queens.”

[Crosscanon/aus/assumed cr are all good, with vague potential thoughts as follows:
Greek/Roman: Most likely small talk, or questions if you come off as particularly knowledgeable about whatever you're looking at. She's not eager enough for a flex to debate, but idle meetings of any stripe are all well and good.
Cafe: Odds are high she's hogging a table in the journey to try every single drink, you could comfort her as she finds to her distress that almost every drink on offer is gross (where is tea! why no tea!), would 12/10 be trying to smuggle snacks around the rest of the museum, amenable to conversation.
Special exhibit: With minor assumed jamjar-level familiarity sorts of cr she could absolutely be inviting anyone along with intent of Friending at you until you Become Friend, also probably a fine first-or-second pseudo-date, for an obligatory ship option. She's probably pretty entertained throughout - museums aren't terrain she's familiar with and she likes new things, odds are low she'll be bored.
Tour: Probably good for bumping into people! She's a near-silent hanger-on at the very back, more or less here to kill time but enjoying herself well enough.]
The world isn't as impermeable as Ganymede might once have thought - not even time itself is - and sometimes people end up where and when they distinctly shouldn't be. Usually, though, they also end up back home, sooner or later.
So until then, is it so very selfish of him to be pleased to know the current one? He's done what he can, to help. He's not too sure the museum is the best place... or maybe, really, it is.
"See anyone you recognize?" Ganymede says, his tone partially teasing, but mostly quietly sympathetic as he comes up to stand beside Cleïs in front of a couple busts. Ending up so far in the future is jarring enough, but to be able to go around a place like this and see proof of what was (should still be) one's present presented as a distant past...
Ganymede lived through it all, and it sometimes feels jarring for him too.
