My most favorite AU

[Grace gives him a look that says absolutely not. If she wasn't feeling her nerves, she'd say more. Tease. As it is, she feels like she's about to dive off a cliff, but it's a less terrifying jump than telling Tommy the truth. Though, then--it was her heart ruling rather than her mind.

So far, so good.]

I told Harry I've gotten news my aunt Mildred is deathly ill. The woman that raised me. [Another lie.] He sent me home and told me I may take my leave to handle the arrangements.

[She doesn't pretend to be a woman looking at oil paintings and stone carved into people. She speaks to Tommy openly and honestly in the daylight, just softly.]

Once I leave here, I'll speak to Campbell's superiors. I imagine they'll want to confirm my information before speaking to him, and so we'll dig up the guns.

[And then it will be done. Hopefully. It all relies on Campbell's shame.]

I'll leave to New York as soon as possible. I worry about his retribution. I'm an easier target than you.

[If he can surmise that they're in love, or at the very least that Tommy loves her, Grace doesn't put it past any man to come for her. It's an unfortunate fact, and she sighs deeply.]

I'll come back when it's safe. This is the address.

[She reaches into her purse to pull out a folded piece of paper, holding it out for him to take.]

I promise.
